Welcome to PRAIA MAR E SOL

        Background Information

1. ABOUT PRAIA MAR E SOL

1.1 THE LOCATION

450 km from Ressano Garcia / Lebombo border is a little paradise. A beautiful lagoon with azure waters that stretches further than the eye can see and an ocean that's more challenging than some of the other holiday destinations in Mozambique. Our resort will definitely appeal to nature lovers as we have a multitude of birds, pristine beach and nature with beautiful and breathtaking sunrises and sunsets over the sea and the lagoon.

1.2 WHALES AND DOLPHINS

From May to October, see the Humpback Whales and Southern Right Whales on their annual migration from the Antarctica to their breeding grounds off Mozambique. They are slowmoving but give spectacular displays of breaching, lob tailing and spy hopping. The Bryde's Whales and Bottlenose Dolphins are permanent residents and can be seen all year round.

1.3 ACTIVITIES IN QUISSICO

Each year Quissico hosts the only annual drum and marimba festival in Mozambique, which is spectacular! Their tribal music is unique. The ambassadors from China, Germany and Sweden are regular spectators at the festival. It is definitely something to see! Be sure not to miss this!

1.7 PETROL

Super petrol and diesel are available at the local petrol station as well as paraffin. If your vehicle uses unleaded petrol, the closest station to Quissico where it is available is Xai Xai and Inhambane. However, it has occurred during a very busy holiday that neither Xai Xai nor Inhambane had unleaded petrol available. If you want to prevent such a predicament, inform us of the quantity unleaded petrol needed before your arrival and we will see to it that your requested quantity is at your disposal when you arrive. It is best to pay for fuel in Meticais as petrol stations charge heavily to exchange, but do accept rands.

1.8 FISHING AND DIVING

1.8.1 FISHING

The lagoon is crossed by a bridge, one side of it reaching all the way up to Inharime, ± 40 km north, where the Inharime River flows into it, thus lending itself to a spectacular exploratory trip up the lagoon with its plenteous fish like Grunter and Kingfish in up to 20m deep water. Motorboats and rubber ducks are ideal for fishing on the lagoon.

Due to the fact that the sea at Praia Mar e Sol is rather challenging, only rubber ducks can be launched because they are lighter. Fishing in the sea is excellent because it is still virgin waters.

1.8.2 DIVIING

The famous Manta Reef reaches past the Quissico coast and is just waiting to be explored by divers. As yet charter boats are not available to take divers out to sea, but will be in the very near future as we already have someone with the necessary expertise to do so.

1.9 WATERSPORT

The rest of the lagoon flows into the sea 30km south at Chissibuca, but cannot be reached by boat due to a very small island close to Praia Mar e Sol, which separates the lagoon from the sea. There is still flow from the lagoon into the sea in spite of the island. And there are no crocs or

hippos in the lagoon!

As a whole the lagoon lends itself outstandingly to a wide range of water sports like jet skiing,

parasailing, skiing, kayaking and canoeing. .
